More than 22,000 Grassroots Activists Reject So-Called ‘Open Internet’ Regulation

Americans for Prosperity leads effort to make the voices of regular Americans heard at the FCC

Americans for Prosperity announced a stunning public comment campaign that resulted in more than 22,000 comments from regular Americans opposed to new regulations in the name of "net neutrality" or an "open Internet."

AFP Vice President for Policy Phil Kerpen issued the following statement:

"The American people know the Internet is a great free-market success story, and that competition and private ownership have brought us unprecedented innovation and new ways to do business, communicate, educate, and organize.

"The over 22,000 Americans for Prosperity activists who submitted individual comments to the FCC made clear that most regular Americans would prefer the government leave the Internet alone, despite the claims of some radical left-wing groups that there is a broad grassroots desire for government control to protect us from Internet providers.

"We've seen unbelievable grassroots energy over the past year in opposition to out-of-control taxes, spending, bailouts, and debt. Clearly, the American people believe the federal government is out of control. This outpouring of opposition to regulating the Internet shows that the American people are every bit as outraged at the prospect of a Washington takeover of the Internet as they are about any of the other major threats to freedom we face."
