U.S. Senator Shaheen votes against ending TARP bailout program

“Rotating Slush Fund For Banks Continue”

WINDHAM─ Americans for Prosperity (AFP), a grassroots free-market group, today expressed their disappointment with U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen’s (D-NH) vote against ending the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) bailout program.  During Senate business today, Senator John Thune (R-SD) offered Amendment 3301, a bill “To terminate authority under the Troubled Asset Relief Program, and for other purposes” which Senator Shaheen voted against.

“It is disappointing that Senator Shaheen voted against ending the TARP program which has provided billions of tax payer dollars to Wall Street fat cats at the expense of the hard working people of New Hampshire,” stated Corey R. Lewandowski, state director of Americans for Prosperity.  “With unemployment on the rise in New Hampshire I would have hoped that Senator Shaheen would have voted to put an end to the rotating slush fund for banks,” Lewandowski concluded.

13 Democrats joined with all 40 Republican Senators to vote to end the TARP bailout program which was originally set to expire at the end of 2009 but has been extended.  Due to parliamentary rules 60 votes were required to pass the Thune Amendment.
