Tell the Revenue Committee to Support LB 970 - Significant Tax Relief for Nebraska

You have the opportunity to make a difference.

There is a serious effort to reduce taxes in Nebraska. Today the Revenue Committee will hold a hearing on LB 970, a bill that would eliminate the Death Tax and reduce the income tax.

Nebraskans pay too much in taxes to support government that has grown too large and too expensive. Reducing taxes is not only compassionate during a prolonged national economic downturn that has left many either unemployed or underemployed, it is smart economic policy.

Consider for a moment the facts.

The state of Nebraska’s spending has increased by 37% over the past 10 years! In 2002 the state General Fund budget was $2.6 billion; in 2012 spending has grown to nearly $3.6 billion.

Nebraska families have certainly not seen their incomes rise by 37% since 2002. It is ridiculous for politicians to expect us to pay for such outrageous spending. By passing LB 970 we will be making a big step towards limiting government and controlling spending.

37% spending growth is unsustainable. We believe Gov. Heineman, who called for significant tax relief during the State of the State speech, is absolutely right. 2012 is our opportunity to get serious about reining in spending and supporting struggling families by reducing the tax burden.
