Yesterday afternoon, the Employee Free Choice Act, otherwise known as Card Check because it eliminates the secret ballot in union elections, received another major setback.
The Senate failed to get the 60 votes needed for cloture to move forward to confirm Craig Becker to the National Labor Relation Board. Becker is SEIU's former general counsel and was likely to pursue Card Check without a vote of Congress, a similar situation to what we are seeing the EPA do with their global warming agenda. 52 Democrats voted for cloture, with two voting no, Blanche Lincoln (Ark.) and Ben Nelson (Neb.). See the full roll call here.
Unfortunately, the question still remains whether President Obama will try to put Becker in as a recess appointment, as the Big Labor unions are calling for.
We'll keep you up to date.
