Today marks the anniversary of one of the most unfortunate pieces of legislation to be signed by President Obama. Three years ago, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, later known as Obama’s Stimulus package, became the law of the land. The American people were told this package would save and create jobs, but the simple fact is that it was the start of a long pattern of wasteful spending from a President who has little regard for fiscal discipline, and feels entitled to pick winners and losers in the marketplace.

Since 2009, the Obama Administration has continued this trend of reckless and irresponsible spending. Last week, President Obama released his budget for the fiscal year 2013. The budget calls for $1.9 trillion in higher taxes while the economy struggles to regain its footing. Raising taxes only gives politicians more money to spend, undermining efforts to control federal spending. Even with all these new taxes, the President foresees a $1.3 trillion deficit for this year, the fourth straight year with a trillion-dollar deficit.

When President Obama took office, the national debt stood at $10.6 trillion. Today, the national debt is $15.7 trillion and climbing fast. The unemployment rate continues to soar, the U.S. workforce continues to shrink, and the president keeps attempting to pick winners and losers in the market; first with the banks, then auto companies, and recently failed ‘green energy’ boondoggles like Solyndra.
