New Obama Policies Working against Each Other

The Obama Administration is trapped in a typical liberal quandary: trying to be all things to all people. Liberals in this country are beholden to the environmental lobby and Obama appears content to allow their alarmism to drive his regulatory policy, regardless of the effects on the struggling economy.

Climate Change Czarina and Former EPA Administrator Carol Browner indicated over the weekend that the EPA intends to “look at Mass. vs. EPA and will make an endangerment finding.” Such a finding would officially label carbon dioxide a pollutant with the United States Government. This would trigger a wave of new regulations under the Clean Air Act that would literally halt economy expansion across this country.

Access to affordable and dependable energy resources is crucial to reinvigorating America’s prosperity. There is currently no viable alternative in the marketplace to the energy that is created by fossil fuels, which are preciously the types of fuels that would be attacked by an Obama EPA finding.

While Obama is mortgaging our country’s future in order to run socialist experiments with the economy, he is simultaneously striking a deadly blow to two of the sectors that must be a part our recovery: domestic energy and the automobile manufacturing. In two separate moves, Obama indicated that he will enact regulations that will cripple both of these pieces of our economy.

First, Obama removed a presidential ban on afflicting the auto industry with multiple emission standards for new vehicles; click here to read more. Second, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced a delay in issuing badly-needed new leases for increased domestic energy production; click here to read more.

The danger of cowing to alarmist interest groups is that all too often their agenda runs counter to your own, as Obama will learn shortly. The president has rightly made reviving the economy his top priority. However, while he is trying in vain to use a faulty economic ideology to prop up the economy with more government spending, he is undermining his own efforts through environmental regulatory policy.

Americans for Prosperity has been a leader on this issue and will continue to chronicle and combat the erosion of economic liberties that this administration appears intent on advancing.
