Missouri Senate debates SJR29 to eliminate state income tax

Missouri Senator Chuck Purgason is the sponsor of SJR29: a bill that would replace the state income tax of Missouri with a sales tax on all new goods and services.

The state income tax has been driving business, jobs and population away from Missouri. Today's Senate debate is a key event toward the passage of this significant idea that many AFP members and other concerned citizens have worked hard to educate elected officials, friends, neighbors and community leaders about the economic growth Missouri can achieve without an income tax.

In case you were not able to listen to the Missouri Senate debate on this issue today, we've posted it below. Senator Purgason speaks to the needs of Missourians that this resolution aims to address, and why it is so important or Missouri to act today to increase our competitive edge, and to alleviate the burden on taxpayers to give more of their earnings to prop up the state budget.

Sen. Purgason quotes Jack Kemp who said, "If you want more of something, you subsidize it; if you want less of something, you tax it." This is the central question that the Missouri Jobs and Prosperity Act (SJR29 replacement) addresses by creating 200,000 jobs over the next decade by eliminating the state income tax and raising revenue with a sales tax. We want to encourage jobs, especially now when so many are in dire need of employment opportunities. Employment, and movement into Missouri, will ultimately shore up our budget with a more reliable source of revenue and an expanding economy in EVERY sector.
