AFP Kansas Releases 2010 Legislative Score Cards and Candidate Questionnaires

TOPEKA, KAN. –The Kansas chapter of the grassroots group Americans for Prosperity today released its 2010 Legislative Score Cards. Each year the fiscally conservative group tracks how legislators vote on a number of key issues and then posts the scores for its members.

In 2010, AFP tracked legislators’ votes on tax increases, spending constraints, the statewide smoking ban, transportation, and the budget. The purpose of the score card is to provide Kansans with information on whether their legislators are fiscally conservative and limited government oriented.

“This year's votes are highlighted by the largest sales tax increase in Kansas history and a state general fund budget bill that increased spending by more than $200 million,” said AFP-Kansas state director Derrick Sontag. “The decision by legislators on whether to grow the size of government this year and to fund that growth by increasing taxes on Kansas families and businesses is one every Kansan should know.”

Additionally, AFP-Kansas is collecting questionnaires from all candidates for Kansas Governor and the Legislature. The AFP candidate questionnaire provides Kansans information on where candidates for the Kansas Legislature and Governor stand on important issues facing our state.

“Candidates were asked to answer questions concerning their position on the sales tax increase and state budget that actually grew spending by more than $200 million this year,” Sontag said. “Respondents answered questions relating to spending constraints, judicial selection, supermajority to raise taxes, and other important topics.”

AFP-Kansas has continued to receive the questionnaires on a daily basis and will post them to www.afpks.org as they come in.
