I love it when I am right (no pun intended) as I am with my predictions on the effects of MZ 66/67. The Oregonian story today http://www.oregonlive.com/news/index.ssf/2010/08/measure_66_tax_revenue_... about MZ 66 revenue tax collections not reaching what they said it would is precisely what myself and many others predicted would happen. However, not for the reasons the article states.
It is because of human nature.
You see the taxpayers that are targeted by this Marxist, class warfare tax increase are angry and upset that they are being demonized by the oppressive socialists in charge of Oregon government. These are entrepreneurs that risk their own capital by starting or expanding a business that creates jobs and frankly, they feel they are being punished for success.
So what do they do? What most humans do when they feel they are being unfairly treated by others and government. They rebel from this heavy handed tactic and take steps to protect what they have worked for.
They spend the money necessary to engage in legal, tax mitigation strategies that reduce their MZ 66 tax burden, thereby reducing the amount of money that they will pay to the State of Oregon.
Why the leftists who run this state refuse to acknowledge this reality is beyond my understanding, because it is common sense and human nature. Even some liberals hypocritically engage in these strategies while mouthing support for higher taxes for the rich. Take Senator John Kerry and how he tried to avoid very high Massachusetts fees/taxes of around $600,000 by fraudulently registering his new $7 Million New Zealand-built boat in Rhode Island...until he got caught.
So if John Kerry, the richest US Senator (estimated $188 million) doesn't like paying high taxes/fees, then why is it so hard for the lefty's that run Oregon to understand that small business job creators might feel the same way?
This is human nature and I predict that because of this reality, MZ 66 will never fulfill the fantasy of the left to punish the successful in the name of “social justice”.
The oppressive socialist movement strikes again.
